Fire at Parramatta Cinema Complex: Hundreds Evacuated

<p>On Wednesday August 17th, at about 11pm, a fire broke out at Event Cinemas at Westfield Parramatta, Sydney.</p><p>Fire and Resuce NSW spokesman, Inspector Kernin Lambert told news crews; &quot;Firefighters found a large-scale evacuation in progress. Approximately 300 persons were in the cinema at the time the fire broke out. The cinema complex was rapidly filling with smoke. The automatic sprinkler system operated and controlled the fire until firefighters were able to arrive and complete extinguishment.&quot;</p><p>&quot;Due to the good evacuation procedures, all persons were able to safely evacuate from the building.&quot;</p><img alt="" src="/sites/f5m_website/files/Fire at Parramatta Cinemas.png" style="width: 500px; height: 353px;" /></strong></p><p>Upon arrival, Fire crews immediately conducted a &quot;large scale search and rescue operation&quot;. It took about half and hour to completely extinguish the blaze.</p><p>The start of the fire was believed to have involved a popcorn machine. Inspector Lambert said that the exact cause of the fire was still under investigation, but there were no suspicious circumstances.</p><p>Fortunately no one was injured in this incident. Facility management are to be commended on their effective response to the fire, immediately implementing their established evacuation procedures.</p><p>Establishing effective emergency response procedures can make all the difference to saving lives, preventing injury and protecting property.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>
